5 of the largest and strongest cranes
There are so many types of cranes andcrane equipment, which we've already covered on the blog, but what types of cranes are the biggest and strongest? Don't worry, Hercules SLR is here to help.
Read on to find out what some of the strongest cranes are and what they can do.
1. LTM 11200-9.1
Designed bydearThe mobile crane LTM 11200-9.1 from Switzerland is the strongest telescopic mobile crane on the market and offers the longest telescopic boom in the world. It has a maximum lifting capacity of 1,200 tonnes, a maximum lift height of 188 meters (616 ft) and a maximum radius of 136 meters (446 ft) –That's longer than a soccer field!
Some of the features of the LTM 11200-9.1 are:
- 100 m long telescopic boom and 22 m telescopic boom extension.
- Lifting capacity of 65 tons on the 100 m long hanging telescopic boom.
- Jib with folding fly 126 m long.
- 60.5 m long fixed boom, optionally hydraulically adjustable.
- Quick and easy crane assembly with little space requirement.
- Speed-dependent actively steering rear axle (all axles are steered).
- Economical transportation.
The LTM 11200-9.1 was used to erect larger gantry cranes, radio towers, absorption columns and wind power generators. When fully loaded, the vehicle base moves with turntables, tilting cylinders and the four folding beams. With all these elements, it will weigh more than 100 tons. However, disassembling these items is easy, so you only need to travel with what is used at work. As a result, the total weight can be reduced to 34 tons, which makes transport significantly cheaper.
2. PTC-200DS
The PTC 200 DS is owned and operated by a company calledMammoth, located in the Netherlands. This crane is nearly 205 meters (675 feet) tall, has an attachment that can lift 3,500 tons at full capacity, and is so large that 35 containers (each 40 feet long) full of sand are used to weigh it. as counterweights.
This heavy-duty crane has a maximum lifting height of 140 meters (459 feet) and an outreach of more than 136 meters (446 feet). The PTC200 DS can handle a load of 2,000 tonnes in a radius of up to 78 meters with 3,500 tonnes counterweight and 117 meters (383 feet) boom or 58 (190 feet) meter radius with a 140 meter boom. It has recently been upgraded so the crane can lift a 2000 tonne structure in one go instead of lifting it in sections.
The PTC 200 DS heavy-duty crane is mainly used worldwide for large petrochemical and refinery projects. The crane was even used to build the Dubai Observation Wheel, which at almost 213 meters is the tallest observation wheel in the world. Aside from this project, the crane has lived most of its life in the United States, South America and here in Canada.
3. The Asiatic Hercules III
At 16,805 tons, the Asian Hercules is one of the largest floating cranes in the world. The entire ship can accommodate 45 people! With a lifting capacity of 5,000 tons and a maximum lifting height of 120 meters (393 feet), this floating giant is designed for heavy lifting.Off-Shore.
The Asian Hercules III was built in 2015, registered in Singapore and has a crane classified as "ABS A1, +AMS - Heavy Lift Vessel". This crane works with the following winches, among others:
- 2 winches that can pull 20 tons at 10 m/min.
- Class 2 windlasses to handle the 6975kg HHP bow anchor with a 76mm Class 3 anchor chain.
- 2 folding winches that offer a maximum folding speed of 1.00 m/min at full load.
- 4 main hoist winches for the A-frame and 2 for the arm, each capable of lifting speeds of 2m/min at full load and 5m/min with light or no load.
- 2 outrigger adjustment winches, mounted on the A-frame, for load-free working adjustment from 00 to 400 to the A-frame.
- 2 auxiliary hoisting winches for the A-frame and 1 unit for the arm, each capable of lifting speeds of 10 m/min with a full load of 20 tons.
Which is theFocus?A jib or jib arm is the horizontal or nearly horizontal beam used on many types of cranes to support the free load of the main support.
The construction of this mega crane designed byGunnebo, is the result of more than 250 years of technical know-how. The ship's design called for a 5,000-ton modular block system with transoms, luffing blocks and rollers. After two years of design and construction, the Asian Hercules III is a flexible lifting solution with interchangeable parts that can be customized for different lifting configurations.
4. SGC-250
The SGC-250, thesarens Giant Crane, also known as "Big Carl", is a 250,000 t/m crane designed for heavy lifting needs in refineries, oil and gas, mining, offshore platforms and third generation plant components.
This crane, built in 2015, has a maximum lifting capacity of 5,000 tonnes and features a main boom configuration of 118m to 160.5m and a heavy duty boom configuration of 40.5m to 99.5m. It operates on an outer ring of 48.5m and requires a counterweight of 5,200 tons. The arm can be extended up to 100 meters, giving it a maximum height of 250 meters (820 feet) and a radius of 275 meters (902 feet).
The SGC – 250 can work on two different blocks at the same time: one on the main boom and one on the arm. The crane's main hook block weighs 105 tonnes and has a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 3,200 tonnes, while the jib hook weighs 58 tonnes and has a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 1,600 tonnes.
After its introduction, the SGC-250 was transported to the UK where it was used on the Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant construction project. During the course of this project, the SGC was upgraded600 To youof prefabricated components.
5. 10.000SK
To conclude our list, we have a crane that has yet to arrive on site, but when it does arrive it will take the place of the world's largest land crane. The SK10.000, created byBUT, will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020.
With the increasing popularity of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) and Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) units, larger cranes such as the SK10,000 are becoming necessary. Often the modules for these ships are built elsewhere and then taken to the shipyard for assembly. With the SK10,000, the modules can be installed directly on the ships' hulls, improving the current capabilities in terms of the maximum weight lifted and the impact on the efficiency of these projects.
The SK10.000 offers unparalleled lifting capacity as well as a host of other features such as:
- Boom reach up to 200 m (655 ft).
- Ground pressure below 25 t/m2.
- A multiple hook block winch hoist system to maximize hoist capacity and hoist speed.
- Small footprint – The design eliminates the need to install a full ring or crane runway unless the project specifically requires it, reducing the space required for operations by 45%. This is ideal for busy shipyards or areas with restricted access such as oil refineries or petrochemical plants.
- Reduced Site Disruption - The large lift radius allows the crane to be erected and operated entirely off-field with less site preparation.
- Simplified logistics and assembly—BUTSpecialists can assemble the crane from a standard system and a crawler crane in just a few weeks.
What is a crawler crane? On a crawler crane, the boom is mounted on an undercarriage, which is fitted with a series of rails that provide stability and mobility. Crawler cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 to 3,500 short tons.
Hercules SLR cameraoffers crane certifications andLEEA certifiedInspections, repairs, predictive and preventive maintenance, as well as crane parts and accessories such as wire rope slings, hoists and everything else you need for lifting.
If you spend a long day lifting, lifting, and pulling, chances are your body is going through some aches and pains. Did you know that your tow truck isnodifferent? Just as a weightlifter needs to take care of their body, watch their diet, and even make sure their palms are prepared for the lift, your crane needs a similar level of care.
