There Can Only Be One: The Witcher 3 Walkthrough

Open the map and look northwest of the tournament location to find the lake/island recursion – in this case, an island within a lake with a body of water on an island. Or, more simply, a donut-shaped island. Place the quest marker ([Square]/[X]) on the island's water reservoir in the lake and go there. You shouldn't encounter monsters, map markers or special events along the way.

Talk to the druid at the unusual lake to learn about the most powerful treasure (on the left), then search for some stones to learn about the five chivalrous virtues (on the right).

After reaching the island, go to the lake in the middle of it. Yes, you read that right - walk ON water. After some religious humor, go to the hermit who is sitting on a small piece of land in the middle of this pond (an island in a pond on an island in a lake on a continent surrounded by sea? That's a lot of recursion. . .) and talk to him to learn more about the lake and the bounty it hides. All you have to do is prove that you possess the five chivalrous virtues: generosity, bravery, compassion, honor, and wisdom. To find out a little more about them, you can take a look at the rocks north of the lake. The purpose of this venture? It's simple - now that you have this task, you'll be able to more easily track your actions and be sure to prove yourself. The opportunity to do so will arise – and be pointed out – as you complete quests in Toussaint.

Assuming you've completed these quests and proven that you possess the five chivalrous virtues that embody these feats, return to the island/lake northwest of the Tournament Grounds. On a small piece of land in the heart of the island/lake you will find a hermit waiting for you. Talk to him and he will let you down, informing you that you have one more try before claiming your reward; Just having five knight virtues is not enough, you must prove that you are competent enough in combat to wield a blade.

There can only be a hermit fight

Accept the Hermit's challenge and the fight will begin. The Hermit is not an enemy to be considered, as he is capable of throwing water at you and knocking you down (he likes to start a fight that way). He can also throw cones of water at you and summon water arcs that hit you indirectly. However, its most impressive water attack (outside of the barrier of water surrounding the lake, at least) is that the Hermit summons a stream of water around it and slowly moves towards it. You can easily stay out of range of this attack, but the proximity will hurt you, and even Quen won't fully protect you from a direct hit. What's more, he's pretty good with a cane in hand-to-hand combat!

Dodge him to prevent him from throwing magic at you from a distance, and if he uses a water jet attack, keep your distance. If you take damage, back off and use Quen's active version of the spell, as you can absorb his ranged spells and heal yourself. Also, just get close to him and use quick attacks to deal damage. If he starts melee attacking you, dodge and attack him again.

Prove your prowess against the Hermit and he will descend into the lake and never return. In its place, the Lady of the Lake will appear and give Geralt the Aerondight sword, trusting him not to lose it again. Collect your reward... and the surface of the lake will succumb to the forces of nature, putting Geralt in a bad mood.

Charge Aerondight by choosing weaker enemies - Quen will help you maintain the charge no matter how sloppy you fight. (left), killing an enemy with ten charges in Aerondight will increase your maximum damage by 2 points, up to a maximum of 10 + 10 points per level above 40. (right)

A arma Aerondight em The Witcher 3

However, Geralt has no reason to complain, as Aerondight is a prize worth wet clothes. The first of its many advantages is that it reaches Geralt's level, so it should start at the level you are currently at. You can also increase the weapon's power through skillful use, as it will temporarily gain power when you attack enemies with it. Each enemy hit by this weapon will charge it, which increases damage by 10%, and the blade can store ten charges. At full charge, any sword strike will also automatically be a critical strike. The only downside is that you lose these charges over time or when you take damage.

If you kill an enemy with a fully charged Aerondight (ten charges - these are tracked in your health bar like any other buff/debuff), your stacks will be reset but the Aerondight's damage will be permanently increased. The maximum amount of permanent bonus damage an Aerondight can take is ten, plus an extra ten for each level you gain after leveling up, which basically means you don't have to worry about leveling up Aerondight, nor do you have to wait for get this. As long as you continue to power it up, it will remain an effective weapon.

When it comes to carrying Aerondight, using the Quen sign will make everything a lot easier, as will picking weaker monsters and increasing damage. The perfect place for this is Velen, in the fields south of the Devil's Den signpost, where you can find many Nekkers. They are so weak and numerous that using them to charge Aerondight should be a trivial matter, especially if you're protecting yourself with Quen. You can also kill the bandits in the Devil's Pit fort itself, as they are weak enough to be killed even with a silver sword, and most of them are not competent enough enemies to deflect your attacks. Simply spam attacks on any enemy with one-handed weapons and load up the Aerondight.
