Getting Started There can only be one

You can start this quest in different ways and, what's more interesting, you can progress through the quest before it even starts, depending on your actions. We'll talk more about this later, but to start the quest you can getTest yourself through trials of virtue!an advertisement located near the notice board of the Gran Palace in Beauclair that tells you to go to "an island on Lac Celavy" or simply go directly to said island on Lac Celavy itself. See the map below to see the location of this island on the lake.

Whether you've read the information above or not, head to Lac Celavy, which is located north northwest of Beauclair Palace or west northwest of the Tournament site and nearly west of Corvo Bianco. When you get to the lake, swim to the island in the middle of the lake (west of the city center if we're being pedantic) and in that lake you'll find a lake...a lake with water where you can walk. In the middle of the lake you will find a piece of dry land where the Hermit is sitting.

Approach the Hermit and, after some religious humor, talk to him to learn about the lake and the wealth it contains. All you have to do is prove that you possess the five chivalrous virtues: generosity, bravery, compassion, honor, and wisdom. To find out a little more about them, you can take a look at the rocks north of the lake.

The Five Stones of Lac Celavy proclaim the virtues you must taste.

How to Prove You Have the Five Knightly Virtues

Proving that you possess each virtue is a long-term goal, as you'll have to make different choices during a series of quests to prove each virtue. The number of possibilities you have for proving each virtue is finite, but you only need to prove each virtue after you've made a choice or taken an action that proves you have that virtue; other actions are irrelevant. In other words, you cannot prove yourself unworthy after you have been virtuous.

For many reasons, it's best to start this quest early, as you'll have more opportunities to prove yourself, and some of the evidence in previous quests is really painless. Also, you will be notified when you prove your virtues if this quest has been started, and while you can prove your virtues without starting this quest, you will not be informed in advance. Example if you completedBestia of Toussaintbefore startingThere can be only one, there's a good chance you'll taste the virtues of Compassion and Wisdom based on your choices regarding Shaelmaar and the location of the Beast's fourth victim.

(1z3)Generally, you can block Hermit's attacks with Quen, but in case of a beak attack, you must keep your distance.

How to defeat the hermit

Accept the Hermit's challenge and the fight will begin. The Hermit is not an enemy to be considered, as he is capable of throwing water at you and knocking you down (he likes to start a fight that way). He can also throw cones of water at you and summon water arcs that hit you indirectly. However, its most impressive water attack (outside of the barrier of water surrounding the lake, at least) is that the Hermit summons a stream of water around it and slowly moves towards it. You can easily stay out of range of this attack, but the proximity will hurt you, and even Quen won't fully protect you from a direct hit. What's more, he's pretty good with a cane in hand-to-hand combat!

Dodge him to prevent him from throwing magic at you from a distance, and if he uses a water jet attack, keep your distance. If you take damage, back off and use Quen's active version of the spell, as you can absorb his ranged spells and heal yourself. Also, just get close to him and use quick attacks to deal damage. If he starts melee attacking you, dodge and attack him again.

Prove your prowess against the Hermit and he will descend into the lake and never return. In its place, the Lady of the Lake will appear and give Geralt the Aerondight sword, trusting him not to lose it again. Collect your reward... and the surface of the lake will succumb to the forces of nature, putting Geralt in a bad mood.
